Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 August 2026
Tie The Knot (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates tietheknot.uk. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
1. Data Controller
The data controller for information collected through tietheknot.uk is the site operator based in London, UK. You can contact us at hello@tietheknot.uk.
2. What We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored in hashed form). We use this to identify you and let you access your wedding website.
Wedding and Guest Data
You choose what to enter: wedding details (date, venue, timings), guest names and contact details, RSVPs, meal choices, seating plans, gift registries, budget information, and any other content you add to your wedding website or planning tools. This data is stored so you and your guests can view and manage your wedding.
Guest Contributions
Guests who RSVP or upload photos provide their name and, optionally, their email address. Photo uploads are stored so couples can view and share them.
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation that payment succeeded plus limited details (such as the last four digits of your card and billing postcode) for reference. We do not receive or store your full card number. Stripe’s privacy policy governs how they handle payment data.
3. Cookies and Analytics
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences.
When configured, the site may load Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and/or Facebook Pixel. These services set their own cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site and to measure the effectiveness of advertising. You can control or block these cookies through your browser settings.
4. Why We Process Your Data (Legal Basis)
- Contract: To provide the service you purchased—creating and hosting your wedding website, storing your guest list and RSVPs, and processing payments.
- Legitimate interests: To improve the service, prevent fraud, and ensure security.
- Consent: For optional analytics and marketing cookies, where applicable.
5. How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your account and wedding data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep it for legal or accounting reasons.
6. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Stripe – to process payments.
- Cloudinary – to store and serve images you upload.
- Hosting and database providers – to run the service (servers located in the EU/UK or with adequate safeguards).
- Analytics providers – Google and Meta, when analytics are enabled, as described above.
7. Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@tietheknot.uk. We aim to respond within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your data. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to guard against unauthorised access.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes we will notify you by email or through a notice on the site.
